ISHK responds to September 11, 2001

The tragic events of September 11, 2001 and its continuing aftermath are a clear signal of mankind's urgent need for conscious evolution. We see all too clearly the consequences of a mental system designed for a world long gone: overreacting to dramatic events while ignoring more subtle ones, rushing to “fight/flight”, people from different parts of the world constantly failing to understand each other.

In the months following September 11, ISHK focused on raising awareness in two main areas:

Brainwashing: the inherent susceptibility of the human mind to “change” under pressure, a phenomena at work on all sides of the current world situation:
“How Could It Happen?” ISHK letter to members, 10/9/01

Special offer on key books on the mind and brainwashing.

Cross-cultural understanding: the rich cultural and spiritual heritage of the Afghanistan, Central Asia and the Middle East:
“How to Help in this Time of Crisis:” ISHK email to members, 10/22/2001

Special offers on books about the traditions and traditional literature of Afghanistan, Central Asia and the Middle East.

As a framework for developing a broader, more flexible perspective in these difficult times, we offer this excerpt from the writings of Afghan-born writer Idries Shah:
“The Basic and the Unfamiliar Human Community”
