THE WISDOM IN FEELING
Psychological Processes in Emotional Intelligence
Lisa Feldman Barrett and Peter Salovey (Eds.)
Guilford Publications, 2002
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: The reader will understand ongoing research and theoretical work in the field of affect science that support the ideas embodied in emotional intelligence. This has application for the skills of clinicians and researchers who work with emotion.
Using Mayer and Salovey's four-part model, the book delves into the processes by which people perceive and appraise emotion, use emotion to facilitate thought, understand and communicate emotion concepts, and manage their own and others' emotions. Chapters synthesize findings from a vast body of literature, report on the status of current research, and consider the implications for the ongoing process of theory building and refinement.
Lisa Feldman Barrett, Ph.D., is Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Boston College. Her research focuses on the generation and representation of emotional experience, and also the structure of affect, interpersonal relationships, experience sampling procedures, and, more generally, the role of retrospection in the self-report process.
Peter Salovey, Ph.D., is the Chris Argyris Professor of Psychology, Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health, and Chair of the Department of Psychology at Yale University. He is also Director of the Department of Psychology's Health, Emotion, and Behavior Laboratory and Deputy Director of the Yale Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS.
